Painting Studio Watercolor Painting

Title: "Under the Northern Lights"

Class: Painting Studio

Date: February 19, 2020

For Painting Studio, we had to do a painting using watercolor techniques that we learned in class. I used the salt technique. This is when you do a layer of paint and put salt on top then wait for it to dry, creating a spotted texture. I used this in the sky to make the stars (which are hard to see in the picture, sorry) around the northern lights. I also did the "wet-on-wet" technique for the mountains, which is basically applying a layer of water onto the paper and then on top of it while it is still wet, putting on a layer of paint. This causes the paint to spread rapidly and it created a nice ombre of black to light gray. It gives it a bit of depth. I also applied multiple layers of paint to make the trees, to make them seem like their leaves are layered.
